Synopsis: Mattia Unval est un jeune araméen de nationalité suisse et fils d'un prêtre syriaque orthodoxe en Suisse italienne. Dès son plus jeune âge, son identité a été façonné par l'usage de la langue araméenne et la pratique de sa religion.
La prise de conscience de ses origines se limitait toutefois à ce que lui racontaient ses parents, qui ont fuit la Turquie vers la Suisse au début des années 1980. Mattia et son père ont décidé alors de partir en voyage pour visiter leur terre ancestrale: la région du Tur Abdin (Sud est de la Turquie), "Montagne des serviteurs de Dieu".
L'héritage du silence propose un angle personnel sur les conditions de vie des araméens, dans la diaspora et sur leur terre, dans le passé et au présent, dans les générations jeunes et âgées, créant une image sur la façon dont cette minorité ethnique et religieuse de Turquie a vécu et continue de vivre aujourd'hui.

Mattia Unal is a young Aramaean with Swiss nationality and the son of a Syriac Orthodox priest in the Aramaean community in Italian-speaking Switzerland. From an early age, his identity has been shaped by the use of the Aramaic language and religion.
Mattia’s awareness of his origins is, however, limited to what he has learned from his parents, who fled from their country to Switzerland in the early 1980s. Mattia and his father decide therefore to go on a journey, visiting the land of their family: Tur Abdin, “Mountain of the Servants of God”.
The Legacy of Silence offers a personal view of the lives of Aramaean people, in the Diaspora and in their homeland, in the present and the past, in both the younger and the older generations, creating a picture of how an ethnic and religious minority in Turkey has lived and continues to live on today.
